Inter-Provincial Limited Over Tournament

Jayasuriya flops again as Ruhuna lose

Veteran Sanath Jayasuriya who seemed to be returning to top form after scoring two half centuries in the Provincial limited overs tournament, lasted just six balls making five runs for Ruhuna against Wayamba at the SSC Grounds on Wednesday. Wayamba won the match by five wickets.
Jayasuriya was caught by Shalika Karunanayake off paceman Chanaka Welagedara in the third over of the Ruhuna innings with the total on 13 and the Southerners never recovered to be dismissed for 196 in 47.4 overs.
Jayasuriya’s fellow opener Upul Tharanga who has made it to the Sri Lanka squad ahead of the 41-year-old former Sri Lanka skipper for the forthcoming World Cup, made the highest score of 45.
Promising young opener Dimuth Karunaratne was the architect of Wayamba victory stroking 97 off 126 balls with nine boundaries before being run out, three runs short of a deserving century.
Ruhuna 196 in 47.4 overs (Upul Tharanga 45, Chamara Silva 24, Kaushal Silva 30, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara 41, Suraj Randiv 11, Isuru Udana 12, Chanaka Welagedara 2 for 39, Madura Lakmal 2 for 33, Sahan Wijeratne 3 for 34)
